Supplements and herbs

Table of contents:

Our patients are under no obligation to purchase nutritional supplements at our clinic.

Supplements are sold in our office for patient convenience and to assure the identity and quality of the herbs and nutrients our patients are taking, as much as we are able to in this unregulated field. We purchase these products only from manufacturers who have gained our confidence through considerable research and experience. We determine quality by considering:
(1) the quality of science behind the product
(2) the quality of the ingredients themselves
(3) the quality of the manufacturing process
(4) the synergism among product components.

We do not recommend supplements to clients for our own profit. The small markup we add to the wholesale price covers the cost of making these products available to our patients. Another factor that makes these products more affordable is that we do not need to charge sales tax because these supplements are sold only by “prescription,” that is at the recommendation of a health care practitioner for a specific patient and condition.

The brands of supplements that we carry in our facility are those that meet our high standards and tend to produce predictable results. We also carry some lower-cost options for particular products for particular indications. For instance, we carry probiotic pearls for most indications for probiotics, but carry Klaire Labs Ther-biotic for more serious conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and have specific products targeted for women’s flora, children’s needs, and so on. Similarly, we carry the low-cost Vitacost Coenzyme Q10 (approved by consumerlab.com) for migraines, use with statins and most routine indications, but Q-Best from Thorne, with superior bioavailability, for people with neurologic degenerative conditions and other more serious indications. Please ask if you would like recommendations clarified for your particular situation.

Many of the same or similar supplements are available at Moonrise Herbs, the North Coast Coop or Eureka Natural Foods, however many of them cannot be obtained elsewhere in the area. Patients are encouraged to explore these options at their discretion.
