Our Philosophy

. . as long as you are breathing there’s more right with you than wrong with you, no matter what the condition of your body and its history and no matter what you are facing in this moment.
- Jon Kabat-Zinn

We believe healthcare is a partnership, and that our primary role is to support your body’s natural ability to heal and to help you develop the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance your health and the health of your family. We will seek to be allies on your healing journey, but ultimately it is your journey.

Wellness:

more colorful thriving

We see health as a positive vitality, not just the absence of disease – we encourage you to keep turning the dial past “Not Sick” to “Thriving.”
Thriving means optimal health in many realms: physical vitality and energy, emotional balance with the ability to experience joy and sadness, mental creativity and expression, relationships which nurture and challenge, and so on.

Illness:

We will address illness using a functional medicine approach, meaning we will address underlying causes rather than just your symptoms.
Together, we will be assessing whether there is something you need that you are missing (e.g. a nutrient, enough deep sleep, more hugs, etc.), and we will also be looking at what you might be taking in or exposed to that you would be better off without.
Sitting on a tack

One of our driving principles is the rules of tacks:
1. If you are sitting on a tack, it takes a lot of aspirin to make it feel good.
2. If you are sitting on 2 tacks, removing just one does not lead to a 50% improvement in symptoms. (it still hurts to sit down!)
-Sid Baker, M.D.

Together, we will be trying to figure out what the “tacks” are for you (infection, food allergy, toxic exposures, toxic relationships, toxic thought patterns, etc.) and how to remove them so you can heal.

History of Full Circle

The Full Circle Center was open from 1999 through 2008, offering full spectrum family medicine including obstetrics. In 2008 Full Circle closed and Connie Basch, MD moved to Vancouver Washington to teach in the Family Medicine Residency Program at Family Medicine of Southwest Washington.
She was given the Outstanding Faculty Award twice by the residents, spoke at national meetings, including the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the International Congress for Educators in Complementary and Integrative Medicine, and Integrative Medicine for the Underserved, an organization of which she is a founding member.
She is returning to Arcata in 2013 to reopen the practice and to be close to her daughter.
